Technical Information:

Doors and drawer fronts ~ The kitchen is the heart of every home and if you’re looking for a kitchen that can survive the hustle and bustle of everyday life from the clattering of pots, wandering toddlers, hungry teenagers and the occasional dropped cast iron skillet our timeless, hardwearing ash is an absolute heavyweight champion.

Its strength comes from its unique cellular structure; it is a "ring-porous" hardwood, meaning it has a dense grain that provides incredible tension and compression strength.

Unlike some hardwoods that are brittle and prone to snapping under pressure, Ash has a natural elasticity. In a kitchen setting, this means it doesn't just resist scratches; it absorbs impacts that might cause other woods to dent or splinter. Beyond its physical toughness, Ash is a dream for high-traffic environments because of its dimensional stability. It doesn't warp or shrink as much as other species when humidity levels change—a frequent occurrence in a kitchen full of steam and heat. Its prominent, sweeping grain also does a fantastic job of hiding the minor wear and tear that inevitably happens over a decade of use. It’s essentially the "tough-as-nails" elegant sibling of the hardwood family.

The "Shock Absorber" of the Natural World and can easily be refreshed  with a change of paint colour.

EGGER MFC (Melamine Faced Chipboard) - is the undisputed heavyweight of modern kitchen engineering. Produced by the Austrian specialist Egger, this material is widely considered the industry benchmark for "carcass" (cabinet) construction.

Egger MFC is the professional's choice for a high-performance kitchen. This isn't your average DIY-store board; it’s compressed wood chips bonded with high-performance resin, creating a solid, uniform internal structure. A standard 18mm EGGER board has a bending strength and a high internal bond strength. This means it can hold heavy stacks of ceramic plates (roughly 20–25kg on a standard 600mm shelf) without bowing or sagging over time.

Because the core is so dense, it has superior "screw-pull" resistance. Your hinges won't work loose or sag after a few years of opening and closing the cupboard doors. The "Melamine" in MFC is a thermosetting plastic resin.EGGER heat-bonds this decorative paper directly to the board, creating a surface that is essentially a protective suit of armour.

If Ash is the muscle and EGGER MFC is the armour, then Blum is the nervous system of a high-end kitchen.

This Austrian company is the global "gold standard" because they treat kitchen hardware like precision aerospace engineering rather than simple hinges. Blum essentially invented the modern "soft-close" feel. Their Blumotion technology is an adaptive damping system integrated directly into the hinge or runner.

Unlike cheap mimics that can feel "spongy" or fail after a year, Blumotion adjusts to the force and speed of the door. Whether you give it a gentle nudge or a frustrated shove, the door decelerates at the perfect rate to close silently every time.

Their CLIP top hinges allow doors to open wide enough that internal drawers can pull out without hitting the door—a small detail that prevents a lot of scratched lacquer.

Hettich hardware and runners drawer runners are a gold standard in German engineering. The drawer runners are incredibly robust and are designed to make heavy drawers feel weightless. Their standard runners are rated for 30kg, while their heavy-duty versions can handle up to 70kg without losing their smooth glide.
